Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Sunday former President Trump assured him that he would get a role in the White House if the GOP ticket wins Tuesday.
In an interview on Fox News with Martha MacCallum, Kennedy pushed back on comments made by Trump-Vance transition team co-Chair Howard Lutnick this past week, when he said Kennedy is “not getting a job” as leader of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
“As I said, that is not true. The campaign has walked back those statements by Howard Lutnick, and he himself has disavowed those statements,” Kennedy said when asked about the interview this past week with Lutnick.
MacCallum asked whether that means Kennedy is indeed getting the job of secretary of the HHS.
“We don’t know what I’m going to do,” Kennedy said in response. “I talked to the president about it yesterday, and he asked me what I wanted, and I said, we’re developing a proposal now.”
Kennedy said he wants to be in a position where he can most effectively combat the chronic disease epidemic and said that he’s confident whatever position he would like to have, that Trump “would fight like hell” to give it to him.
“I’m not sure whether that’s going to be the most effective,” he continued. “I want to be in the White House. And he’s assured me that I’m going to have that, but that may, I want to be in the position where I’m most effective to end the chronic disease epidemic, and I’m confident that if I wanted to do HHS secretary, the president would fight like hell to make that happen.”
